Google PR

I saw some people getting excited about the google page rank 3 of the forum. Can anyone explain in details what this means? does this measure the popularity of the forum? if yes, i saw a forum which has been here for 2 years and which is very active who has no pr!

Firstly we cannot even be sure of the PR 3. On my google toolbar it shows a PR 3. It might be attributed to the constant crawlings of search engines bots and the fact that the forum is listed in some forums directories, including forumotions own directory.

Oh yes, it's indeed PR3 on my Google Toolbar.... Partly bcoz of the back-links to the forum & bcoz it's so popular (low member count, high post count?)
But i also guess that all those links to blogs & other sites also add in to the PR.
The PR mechanism is quite complicated..

it is nice that Mr. Google has given the forum a pagerank for how long has the forum been in existence? over 1 year?

There are 2 school of thoughts!

1 that it has 4 months, October, November, December & January

and 1 that it has 3 months,
07/10/07 - 07/11/07, 07/11/07- 07/12/07, 07/12/07 - 07/01/08

It's a pr 3 on my google toolbar too. it's quite rare i guess that a site gets a pr so soon, but its not impossible it may be cause the brethren is specially about blogging. hmm, like carrotmadman said, the pr mechanism is complicated.
but hey the pr 3 is a damn good thing!

I dunno about the toolbars. What exactly do you use when you refer to google page rank?

I get my google stats (incl. ranking) from https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview

I manage my feeds and yahoo rank from https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites

it is the pagerank given by the google toolbar on firefox. if you use firefox, install the google toolbar. you will see the pagerank. it is merely the measurement of the importance of a page, based on a scale of 0 to 10. the closer the PR is to 10, the better it is. Anyway, that is how i have understood it so far. wikipedia has a pr of 8, just to give you an idea.

won't install it though 'coz i prefer stats of my sites, not about others. ranking is not an attribute i care much about when checking out or being part of a site/board of forums etc.

I think the PR adds some credibility to MBB. The MBB is what everyone of us members here have made it. It is a hats off to all of us. That's how I see it!

I know but it's not required to actually check it out via a Firefox toolbar.
AFAIK, there is an page rank counter @ google, whereby you can place onto the site. Everybody can see the rank
